Focusing on piano technique

Weekend program

The weekend program option is designed for you if you are not available on Monday, but would like to attend on Saturday, January 17 (9:30 - 7 pm) and Sunday, January 18 (10 am - 7 pm).

This will be 2 days of supportive interaction among all of us. For more detailed information about The Well-Balanced Pianist programs, please visit www.WellBalancedPianist.com.

Sample schedule

The weekend program includes:
  1. Two half-hour lessons with Teresa Dybvig or Susan Nowicki
    • Because it's a short program, we will not have partner groups. However, all private lessons will be open for observation. If any of the participants choose to practice together, wonderful!
    • You choose what to work on during your lesson.
    • You are invited (urged, even) to attend as many lessons as your concentratation allows, unless the student specifies otherwise.
  2. One private session in the Feldenkrais Method with Sharon Oliensis.
  3. One class on the Feldenkrais Method with Sharon Oliensis.
  4. One Dalcroze class with Dorothea Cook.
  5. Mealtime discussion about mindset for practice and performance.
  6. Your choice of two Saturday clinics. In each clinic, we introduce a concept and work with each participant.
  7. One clinic on fingering on Sunday, led by Susan Nowicki and Teresa Dybvig.
  8. Practice time will be available to everyone.
  9. The opportunity to take extra half-hour piano lessons with Teresa Dybvig or Susan Nowicki ($45) during the weekend. You can let us know at registration if you want to take advantage of this option. You can also choose whether you would like to schedule one extra half-hour lesson or two. Extra lesson times are limited, so requests for one half-hour will be accommodated before second half-hour lessons are scheduled.
  10. The option of participating in a SPECIAL OUTING, dinner at Pita House on Sunday evening. The food is tasty and there are options for every checkbook.

The Schedule
Check-in begins at 9:30 am on Saturday. We will work until 7 pm and enjoy soup and salad dinner afterwards. We will work from 10 am Sunday through 7 pm Sunday, when we hope you will join us to eat at Pita House.

A Sample Saturday Schedule:
9:30 am - 10:30 am Feldenkrais class
10:30 am - 12 noon 2 Clinics - your choice of topics
12 noon - 1:30 pm Lunch, with discussion about practice mindset
1:30 pm - 2:30 pm Walk
2:30 - 6:30 pm Piano lessons (with observation) and practice, and private Feldenkrais sessions
7:00 pm Dinner together
